Introducing Contemporary Collective x Bankside Winter Artist Residency ft. Kasia Sifantus

Bankside Hotel x Contemporary Collective are thrilled to welcome contemporary mixed media artist, Kasia Sifantus, to the Art Yard Studio as their Winter Artist in Residence. In the studio from 16th January to 5th April 2024, Kasia will explore the themes of meditation and mindfulness within her artistic process. Inviting local community members and hotel visitors to the studio, Kasia to share the meditative practices she utlises whilst creating her signature artworks.
Intending to expand the boundaries of her creative practice, Kasia hopes to gain inspiration from the beautiful and unique architecture of the Bankside Hotel and the surrounding Southbank area. During her time in the studio, Kasia will build upon her ‘Dreams’ and ‘Planents series, which portray the power of energy and evoke a sense of mystery and spirituality. To expand upon her practice further, Kasia will experiment with different finishes and larger canvas sizes.
Whilst in residency, Kasia hopes to invite other artists and friends into the space to collaborate and witness the inspiring energy of the Bankside Hotel. In addition to creating a body of work inspired by the hotel’s sophisticated interiors and surrounding Southbank landscape, Kasia plans on creating a collection of Golden coasters for the hotel’s bar, as well as a decorative golden mirror to go along with her signature series.
For the duration of her residency, Kasia will take over the Contemporary Collective Instagram account to document her experience in the studio space and engage closely with followers. Operating an open-door policy, Kasia hopes to foster a collaborative environment in the studio space, inviting friends, hotel guests, passersby and fellow artists to exchange ideas to foster cultural exchange and enrichment of the cultural dialogue.
About Kasia's Practice:
Kasia Sifantus is a contemporary mixed media artist whose work is exhibited internationally. Her art is an evocative response to the landscape, an expression of the transient qualities of nature and the ethereal expanse of seas, land, and sky. Her work is influenced by meditation practices and the feeling of connection to everything. Her PLANETS series portrays the power of energy, a sense of mystery of connecting to something beyond the known. Her creative process is intuitive, she continuously strives to uniquely conceptualise her creations, producing artworks that have a consistent flow of energy and rhythm. She focuses on texture and light and within the surface of each painting, applies her unique medium by blending raw pigments with acrylic. The powerful effect of these combined materials is further intensified through her refined use of gold, which she exploits for its enduring quality and ability to catch the light, making her work both veiled and glowing. Her work was presented at several exhibitions in the country and internationally including Affordable Art Fair, and Art Basel Miami, and has found buyers in countries all over the world.
