7 ARTISTS TO WATCH

New contemporary artists this month are Mohan Ballard Wendy Helliwell Alexandra Gallagher Nakeya Brown Yasmina Podgorski and Guli Silberstein

This month's seven selected artists to watch promise to lighten up your Autumnal mood. Full of colours and kalidoscopic pattern, this selection of the best newcomers on the scene at DegreeArt is incredibly inspiring. These seven artists all work with very different mediums yet all create work that is provoking and poignant.

This is the chance to really Invest in the Artists of the Future.

GULI SILBERSTEIN

We are very happy to have Guli Silberstein join DegreeArt this week! A renowned artist who studied in New York City, has continued upon graduating to create films for worldwide festivals and art venues. Guli's eerie stills from video are curious, figures we can't quite place within bright coloured landscapes that have a painterly aesthetic. With solo shows under his belt this artist is well established and is sure to go further.

YASMINA PODGORSKI

Yasmina Podorski brings something refreshingly unique to the artworld, with her simplistic ghostlike photography. Mixing theatrical figurative poses with the calm self-expression that each piece holds, Yasmina sees creating art as a way of connecting with her new found spiritual self.

Podorski is hugely admirative of Turner's work, and it would seem that the influence of the sea is apparent in Yasmina's recent work too, having studied at Falmouth University where her love for photography as a means of therapy really developed.

ALEXANDRA GALLAGHER

This award winning artist is a huge Jenny Saville fan, her own art however is very different. Inspired by the adventure of day to day life as well as the loneliness that childhood can bring. Alexandra's work truly tells a story through her eccentric collage prints and paintings, the surreal and the bizarre is celebrated to extreme measures and the result is wonderfully eye opening. Her list of exhibitions, interviews and publications is growing as rapidly as her range of work.

WENDY HELLIWELL

This exciting mixed media artist endeavours to put the spotlight on the world we live in today and its consumerism and sensationalism attitudes, which are greatly influenced by the mass media. Wendy likes to use recycled items that create 3-D art work, mediums include make-up, receipts and wire. These playful collages are incredibly endearing and fascinatingly accurate depictions of busy shoppers and art lovers thanks to her choice of colour and cut-outs being perfectly executed for each piece.

NAKEYA BROWN

Nakeya Brown is living and working in Washington D.C whilst currently pursuing her M.F.A at The George Washington University. Nakeya has impressively exhibited at The McKenna Museum of African American Art, Woman Made Gallery and Mason Gross Gallery.

Nakeya comments on her own identity and backgrond through the self grooming processes she constructs for her photographs. Reconstructing racialised beauty standards this artist speaks boldly and bravely of her analytical studies of women of colour.

MOHAN BALLARD

Mohan creates bright bold paintings based on places and events that he has been to. Many merge various city landmarks thus becoming landscapes of their own.

Mohan is focused on building his commissioned art portfolio, of which is growing rapidly to date.

Is there a special place you would like illustrated or a completely nonsensical dream world that you would like to leave this artist to create? Get in touch now to organise a meeting with the artist. Amsterdam, Italy, Brazil, he illustrates it all.

ELENA CREMONA

Elena is an experimental photographer whose landscapes of Iceland and California are based on the notion of nostalgia. Elena studied at Arts University Bournemouth where she first began to use her art as means to raise awareness of climate change and the unfortunate lack of consideration we have for our own planet. Elena will continue to travel the world in order to become inspirated to educate people further.

Any pick of these seven contemporary artist's work would be a fantastic way to start to start your collection or to bring some new found talent into your current display.

At DegreeArt.com we remain eager to promote the most accessible and affordable innovators of our time.
