IN CELEBRATION OF BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS - DEGREEART PRESENTS VICTORIA HORKAN

The work of Victoria Horkan is at once familiar and fiercely contemporary. Abstract shapes and brooding colours blend to create works which depict the emotion and the substance of the modern world. Building, but never relying, on the works of Miro, Pollock and Rothko she creates the kind of art that you could live alongside. Her pieces breath with a light and life missing from so many of her contemporaries ,with the most complex feelings depicted through the smallest details.
"It is hard top say where inspiration comes from. It is everywhere. Often you can’t help but feel inspired. It comes from general things around you. I like things that are clearly modern, especially structures, buildings and graphic design. I really like very clean cut and contemporary work. Everything inspires me but what I try to do is concentrate on one piece, lock it into my brain and take it back to the office and kind of develop it. It is very easy to be inspired by a lot of objects but for me I think it is more of an emotive thing. It is an emotional process. Not so much looking at a landscape or anything in particular but more about how you feel." - Horkan
