Habib Hajallie | Appointed to the Royal Society of British Artists

Signature Art Prize Winner 2019 and 2022 Judge Habib Hajallie has been announced as one of two newly elected members to The Royal Society of British Artists. We send him our congratulations on this well desereved accolade.

Habib, who graduated from Loughbourogh University in 2017, describes his practise as:

"My practice looks to empower often marginalised minorities through the exploration of identity within portraiture. Confronting socio-political issues within my drawings can act as a catalyst for a discourse regarding the perception of various demographics as being of lesser humanistic value. Specifically, with the disenfranchised often being undermined by mainstream media; somewhat paradoxically reflecting an archaic hierarchy of status, similar to colonial ideologies." Learn more

About the Royal Society of British Artists:
On average, there are 110 members elected to the RBA, all of whom are entitled to exhibit in the Annual Exhibition which is held at Mall Galleries in London. The membership procedure is competitive; candidates will normally be expected to have previously exhibited several times with the Society after which they may apply for election to the RBA. The election of new members takes place at the AGM, where candidates are able to show their work and, as a result of a ‘blind’ vote, one or more candidates may be elected to the Society. The members are able to show their work in the exhibition, they are also requested to play an active part in the maintenance and development of the Society.
