Samuel Ryde Featured In Dazed & Confused Magazine | Interview With The Photographer On His Latest Project, 'Telephone Booths'

We are pleased to announce that our artist, Samuel Ryde, is featured in Dazed & Confused Magazine with a special interview on his brand new series, 'Telephone Booths'.

Dazed & Confused sat down with Samuel to discuss "his fascination with seemingly mundane objects, the allure of the telephone booth, and why we should take a second look at the world around us" (dazeddigital.com). Published on 28th January 2021, the interview walks through the ideas and concepts which fueled Samuel's new project, along with his fascination with the particular subject matter and his use of photography to capture the beauty in everyday items that often go unnoticed.

About the series:

"The slow demise of something we once loved. The relic of a past time, an essential that we choose to ignore, to hang-up. A physical reflection of mortality and the fragility of our lives. Right before us, slowly rotting away in a piss-stained bed. Used, abused and unloved. The sad sight of something that once was, that will never be again. What does it say about us, as humans? Our consumption, and dismissal. They serve as constant reminders of how short-sighted we choose to be when the reality is staring us in the face on every corner."

About Samuel's practice:

Samuel Ryde is a British documentary photographer living in London. His work has been featured in the New York Times, The Observer, Wired and Dazed. Samuel has an obsession to document the conventional parts of life we don't notice, bringing life and character to objects that are remarkably unremarkable. His interior project ‘Hand Dryers’ is a testament to that. Capturing the servitude of an object that is at once as recognisable as it is forgettable. From LA to London, New York to Newport, each location reveals the character of the scene.
