In the Spring of 2019 I was invited to collaborate with the musicians of the Whittington Music Festival that takes place in Shropshire every year. A group of artists attended the rehearsals,,watched the musicians, listened to the music and responded with sketches, paintings, 3D works etc. Silence to the Left is one half of a diptych, the other being Silence ;to the Right. The exercise was uplifting and inspirational and the end concerts amazing. Next year hopefully the same opportunity will present itself. The painting is highly varnished and multi layered. The Music that inspired me was Dvorak's piece for Cello and violin called "Silent Woods" - a haunting piece and one cannot escape relating the subject to our current concerns about loss of forests. The work is framed and would work well on its own or as a pair with its other half, Silence to the Left, perhaps in alcoves.
