Graduate Fine Artist from University West of England. A current Fellow at Spike Island, Bristol studios. Studied in UDK, Berlin for half a year as well as living in the city.
The world around me is a constant source of inspiration. It is the colours and shapes that I see and the juxtaposition of various materials together and how these interact with each other alongside the effect of light upon them creating shadows and depth. From this my abstract paintings often cross over into sculpture combining 2D with 3D elements onto and out from the canvas. Found objects from the streets around me can be a starting point along with other materials such as plaster, metals, woods, wax, papers and cottons. This brings an element of my everyday life directly into the works. I try to push the boundaries of a canvas, not to be restricted by a box or a rectangle and allowing myself to think outside of it. The images I create are both fragile, sometimes awkward, with colours bright and optimistic so creating an unusual balance. The work is formed without the use of figurative formations and a lack of words, focusing more on the depth, colours, structures and emotions of the work. During 2016 to 2017 my exploration in the field of painting has become prolific. I believe what you choose to do is as important as what you choose not to do. One thing I believe greatly is that what you choose to do is as important as what you choose not to do. The idea of absence within time of working and not working is part of the works you make.
