JAMES WEDGE
I started my varied creative life as a milliner, designing hats for the fashionable elite. My career continued as a photographer, commissioned for leading fashion magazines and campaigns and exhibited throughout Europe and America. I created the iconic Biba nude. I moved to the country to for-fill my desire to become a painter, I am now working on figurative and portrait paintings at my studio in Dorset. My paintings are traditionally oil on hand stretched canvas although this may change with time as my work is organic. I am always striving to portray and describe the human condition within my work. Each week I undertake a day of life drawing, where my mark making is charcoal, graphite or acrylic. I do this as a continual exercise in depicting the human form. In my portraits I try to capture a likeness of the sitter without it being photo realism. In my figures I try to capture the moment and life in movement.
