Devised and created during her Bankside Hotel Artist Residency, ‘The House of Eden’ by Yuliya Martynova responds to the Makers Studio, the hotel’s distinctive interiors, and the rhythm of London’s South Bank. Begun in November 2025, the residency became a catalyst, with architecture and design shaping the work through place, presence, and process.
Expanding into larger canvases and multi-surface works, the series brings together ideas developed across the artist’s past decade. “House” speaks to home, family, and temple, while “Eden” suggests a sacred space where beauty feels personal. Through linear forms, imperfect symmetry, and layered media, the works invite movement rather than a fixed direction.
“When you begin a residency with one set of ideas, the feel of your surroundings and temporary studio can lead you to discover and move in directions you could not have envisaged at the start."
