“The Woman Behind The Hat” was inspired by a photograph I took at the floating market in Bangkok. We were ‘floating’ by a variety of different stores while in our boat. One of them had a beautiful Thai lady selling hats. There was just something about her smile that captivates you as you float on by. I wanted to capture the moment with her smile in my art. I used acrylic paint with a monochrome colour scheme for the portrait and for contrast in the background I used recycled Softi candy wrappers. I wanted the background to represent the hustle and bustle of the market and added roses made from the wrappers on the one hat to compliment the beauty of this woman’s smile.
