This piece is one painting from my series 'Still Water' consisting of ten oil paintings. As well as my personal connection with water, the piece was inspired by my research into the transformative act of painting, memory, the simulacrum and humans connection to nature. Repetition and reflection is an important aspect in the work, referenced by the literal image on the water being a copy of the landscape, then replicated in a photograph and being transferred to memory and a painting, this replication alters the reality of the moment. With photography being used as a tool to create the work, the 4:3 ratio intentionally references the iphone camera ratio. I aim to encourage audiences to reconnect with nature and question their relationship with technology. The Sun's Still Out presents a familiar relaxing but slightly ominous lake landscape taken from my lived experience. I was able to analyse my memory of this experience and i encourage viewers do the same. All of titles in the series include the word 'still' and the main title 'Still Water' references the unmoving water but also how through all the repetition and the fact what you are viewing to be water is actually just a reflection, the image is still, water.
