My work often revolves around the female figure, and I am fascinated by what it means to inhabit or ‘belong’ in my body. Women are intimately connected to nature, and our bodies are subjects to it’s laws and rhythms. From cycles of the moon to the changing seasons. My practice seeks to explore this connection, often against the romantic backdrop of Britain’s diverse flora and fauna, and drawing on the rich symbolism of Dutch Still Life painting. These works also make use of the craft of japanning; a 17th century European technique that is currently an endangered craft.
