April - June 2025
As we continue our partnership with the Royal Society of Artists, DegreeArt Gallery is proud to present Embroidered Horizons. Stitching the Invisible, a new solo showcase by acclaimed artist Kelly Jenkins at the RSA in London — an evocative exploration of landscape, memory, and the unseen layers that shape our experience of place.
Kelly Jenkins, a British artist and Royal College of Art graduate, is renowned for her innovative fusion of painting and embroidery. Her work intricately combines abstract landscape paintings with detailed embroidery, drawing inspiration from Impressionism, Romanticism, graffiti, erosion, and vandalism
In her brand new showcase, "Embroidered Horizons. Stitching the Invisible," Jenkins explores the intersection of the visible and invisible within landscapes and human experiences. The exhibition features a series of embroidered paintings that delve into the hidden narratives and emotions embedded in our surroundings. By integrating free-hand machine embroidery with abstract painting, Jenkins brings to light the often-overlooked details and stories that shape our perception of the environment.
A notable aspect of the exhibition is Jenkins' use of data-driven embroidery. She collects environmental data from the areas she studies and translates this information into intricate stitch patterns on canvas. This method not only adds depth to her artworks but also emphasizes the connection between human experiences and the landscapes they inhabit.
Through "Embroidered Horizons. Stitching the Invisible," Jenkins invites viewers to reconsider their relationship with their environment and technology, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the unseen elements that influence our daily lives. Her work challenges traditional boundaries between art forms, offering a fresh perspective on how we interpret and engage with the world around us.
This showcase is a continuation of the gallery’s exciting partnership with the Royal Society of Artists. The RSA has been at the forefront of significant social impact since 1754. Their proven change process, rigorous research, innovative ideas platforms and unique global network of changemakers, work collectively to enable people, places and the planet to flourish in harmony.
