The Formscape Series explores the intersection between the artist's popular Urban Landscape Series and Balance Series. The imperfect shapes in the works inspired by architecture, design, and urban spaces, interact with each other to find a moment of unexpected balance. The pieces in this collection encourage the viewer's focus to undulate between formal features of fine art: texture, form, colour, balance and proportion. This piece was created during the artist's residency at Bankside Hotel. During the residency, which was inspired by the relationship between work and play, the artist examined how our everyday lives have become a delicate balance and conversation between contrasting concepts and how these ideas influence her artworks. Continuing her exploration of the interaction of shapes, forms, textures and colors through painting, the artist took all of her inspiration from the architecture and interiors of the Bankside Hotel, as well as the surrounding urban area of Southwark and Southbank. To further connect the paintings to the concept of work/play, she created works like this one that celebrates the interconnection and overlap of geometric shapes (representing work) and organic shapes (representing play).
