Powerful, painful, vulnerable, joyful – these are the qualities I explore when drawing or painting the female figure, as I contemplate the experience of inhabiting my own body. My work is informed by the myth of "Leda and the Swan," a story that embodies the complexities of power dynamics, desire, and transformation. Through this lens, I challenge the traditional art historical narrative dominated by ‘the male gaze,’ aiming instead to present the nude in an autonomous, empowered, and sensual light. By reinterpreting old master drawings my practice seeks to reimagine the figure as both subject and storyteller. Whether capturing the immediacy of an encounter or the fragility of a memory, drawing serves as a deeply personal and authentic form of expression in my work. Using oil bar directly on canvas, I embrace the qualities of the preparatory sketch, allowing each mark to act as an expressive catalyst for the next. The staining nature of the medium allows me to find beauty and embrace mistakes through bold colour. My large canvases challenge the hierarchy of painting by celebrating the raw, exploratory process of drawing
