This work on paper is one of a collection of paintings based on the Orwell Bridge, that crosses the River Orwell, south of Ipswich in Suffolk, UK. My art work is concerned with developing a visual language to record my response to structure in the landscape. I chose to work in locations that have been manipulated in some way. This has resulted in an exploration of bridging, both its metaphoric and vertiginous nature. In this painting I enjoy a freedom of mark making, often using sponges rather than brushes, to energise the subject. By painting and over painting, I am building layers in the work that create a depth in the painting.
