Materials:

Oil paint, silver and gold leaf on canvas. By its very nature much of the magical island of Corfu is indeed "hidden" In my explorations of Mediterranean islands both real and imagined I have sought to reflect the magnificence and wildness of these little seen views. I wanted to create a piece that would inspire and invigorate in equal measure when viewed. Like the island itself the image changes depending on the light cast on it, from morning to evening, from natural to artificial light this is a different painting each time.

A fresh and colourful painting which depicts a part of Corfu not seen by tourists, From early childhood I have been fascinated by this exotic Greek Isle. As a teenager I read Gerald Durrell's "My Family and Other Animals" and could feel the atmosphere literally soaked into the pages. I aim with any work inspired by this jewel of the Mediterranean to recreate in artistic terms the richness and excitement I feel when I am there. Think of it as a little piece of Corfu transported to wherever you deem to hang this canvas.
