With the announcement of the upcoming exhibition at the Royal Academy honouring renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron in July, we thought we'd shine the spotlight on Luke M Walker, who completed a series of paintings which documented the construction of the Switch House extention to the Tate Modern in 2013.
Luke created a series of works for each stage of it’s transformation, from the initial concrete core, its temporary scaffold cladding, to its completion in 2018.
Work in Progress 003 (winner of the Signature Art Prize 2015) and 005 expressed the concrete shell of the building.
While Metastructure 006 depicts the building swathed in scaffolding and New Gold Dream celebrates its completion.
Each work undergoes a series of different material processes to express the of construction of the building itself.
