Giacometti inspired Sculpture Collection

In honour of the Tate Modern first major retrospective of Alberto Giacometti for 20 years in the United Kingdom, we have curated a selection of DegreeArt artists whose work reflect the heavily worked surfaces of his sculptures and the idea of the artwork as an expression of the artist's emotional response to the subject.

Johannes Nielson "The question I have asked myself since is how to transform this inner experience into a body by using clay and proportions. My sculptures are my suggestion for this internal space—not only does it exist but it is also a reality during the day when my eyes are open."

Carol Pearce is a sculptor who could not work without drawing. The process of drawing, that intuitive response, is in part what she aims for in her work.  She sculpts in clay, which like charcoal is quick to make marks with, once finished it is cast into bronze when those fluid marks of the making are then fixed.

Benedict Romain combines traditional figurative sculpture with contemporary found objects and installation. Romain describes his angel figures "Before modern psychology defined our dreams and impulses as internal forces, the psyche was often embodied as external figures of angels and spirits".

Emmanuel Okoro pares down to reveal the essence of a state of being, oneness and relationship or of a moment; whether dancing, expectant, or restful. With his sculptures, Okoro simplifies the forms to achieve clear lines, smooth and organic textured surfaces, while playing with the scale and proportion of specific features within figurative sculptures.
