To celebrate International Women's Day, we thought we'd share this feature on Women in the Arts on BBC News. We were lucky to featured alongside new Tate Director Frances Morris and Curator at Royal Academy, Edith Devaney.
Male artists dominate the history books, however more women than men are graduating from fine art universities.
Watch Contemporary Collective artist Sophie Derrick and Co-Founder and Director Isobel Beauchamp speak about balancing a career in the arts.
There's been a shift of women in high profile positions, are we looking at a "A new chapter in history, written by the female hand" - Wendy Hurrell.
"As I asked the question - where is all the women's art in our galleries, I increasingly got the sense that we may be at a turning point. Female graduates of art colleges are motivated, building their 'brand' and discovering they can make a modern career in the art world, while there are more women in the top jobs. It can only be a good thing for art lovers - a greater diversity and access to great work." - Wendy Hurrell
