La Femme Nuage | She is The Cloud INSPIRATION The series release is coinciding with Yuliya’s 10 years anniversary as a full time artist. Over the last decade, dramatic sky formations and colors have been a continuous source of inspiration for her palette. Weaving the visual narrative between opulence and deliberate scarcity into canvased realms. The artist attempts to change the observers view on portraiture. Yuliya draws the comparison between celestial entity and female kind. Instead of admiring the exterior of a woman that these days could be easily altered, Yuliya looks at female beauty through abstract qualities. We should accept that women are a force of nature; temperamental, powerful, overwhelming, bright and sentimental. Which is why, Yuliya argues, the clouds are such a perfect way to emphasize these ethereal properties. PROCESS This is a fast paced, highly intuitive, creative process. The initial artwork can be created in minutes or a matter of hours. Later revisited later to add additional layers and depth. Yuliya tries to complete the artwork in a single breath. She uses high precision application of oil paint on a surface primed with florescent base creating a subtle but obvious contrast between glowing background and clouds. Feather or petal like brushstrokes are signature features of Yuliya’s style. Upon completion, Yuliya often grows dissatisfied with the original balance and composition.
