Materials:
The materials I use for this art are, a thin paper, usually Chinese, Japanese or Thia; this one is on Chinese mulberry paper. I use these papers because they are thin and can be manipulated over a 3D object.
I also need my specimen, in this case it was a large prawn. There is also ink, I used an acrylic screen printing ink which is both light fast and permanent.
What is not visible but very important is the glue and backing paper I also use.
In order to make my work the paper is pressed against the surface of the object, here the Chinese paper is pressed over the prawn. In the process, it becomes buckled and wrinkled and would not sit flat in a frame so I then have to attach a backing paper. This process known as Uruauchi is the traditional way to finish a print. It is also known as wet mounting. The wet mounting allows the paper to relax and you can take all the air bubbles and creases out of the actual print and thinken the paper at the same time so it become suitable for framing.
