Gareth Griffiths, a Welsh sculptor from Holywell, North Wales, is celebrated for his innovative abstract steel sculptures. He studied sculpture at Bretton Hall College (University of Leeds), graduating in 2002, and later completed a Master’s in Design at Leeds Metropolitan University in 2004.

In 2015, Gareth was elected as a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. His work has been exhibited internationally in prestigious galleries and locations, including Tate Liverpool, as well as venues in London, Beirut, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Europe, and America. His sculptures are also held in private collections across Europe, America, and Australia.

Between 2015 and 2017, Gareth collaborated with Michelin-starred chef Michael O’Hare, showcasing his works at the acclaimed Leeds restaurant The Man Behind The Curtain.

Gareth’s sculptures draw inspiration from “Googie” architecture, a distinctive style that originated on the American West Coast. The term "Googie" comes from a coffee shop in West Hollywood designed by John Lautner. Emerging after World War II and gaining prominence in the 1950s and 1960s, this architectural style was characterized by its bold and futuristic designs.

Initially used in commercial buildings such as coffee shops, motels, gas stations, and bowling alleys, Googie architecture sought to create eye-catching structures that stood out from their surroundings. This aesthetic was achieved through dynamic forms like flowing lines, upswept roofs, boomerang shapes, and abstract cut-outs, made possible by advancements in building technologies.

Gareth’s sculptures embody the essence of Googie architecture. They are vibrant, visually striking, and designed to captivate attention, inviting viewers to engage closely with their dynamic forms. His works transform industrial materials into expressive, architectural art, blurring the line between function and beauty.
