Taking influence from painters including Albert Irvin and Paul Tonkin, my paintings explore abstraction using colour as the starting point. I aim to create energetic and striking compositions and start with a basic idea such as exploring different shades of blue and green from which the paintings then evolve. The number and size of the brush strokes and exact colours used are never predetermined.  The paintings are created through an intuitive process, where one decision will lead to the next until the painting is complete.

The British artist Arnold Dobbs says ‘paintings ether figurative or abstract should have a direct impact on our senses.  They don’t have to be understood but enjoyed for there uplifting and sensual qualities.’  This is something I hold true to my work; there is not a meaning to the paintings.  I aim to create paintings that people feel compelled to look at whilst also reflecting upon them.
